Raw Banana Kofta Curry

Raw Banana Kofta Curry is a delicious Indian dish made with fried raw banana (plantain) dumplings served in a flavorful tomato-based curry sauce. Here’s a detailed recipe:

Ingredients:

For Koftas:

  • 2 raw bananas (plantains), peeled and grated
  • 2 tablespoons besan (gram flour)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon green chili paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For Curry:

  • 2 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Koftas:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine grated raw bananas, besan, ginger paste, green chili paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to form a dough-like mixture.
    • Divide the mixture into small portions and shape them into round balls or oval-shaped dumplings.
    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the shaped koftas in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove them using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Curry:
    • In a blender, combine chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, and ginger. Blend into a smooth paste.
    • Heat oil in a pan or kadhai over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add the tomato-onion paste to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the raw smell disappears, about 8-10 minutes.
    • Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    • Pour in water to adjust the consistency of the curry as desired. Bring it to a gentle boil.
  3. Assemble the Dish:
    • Just before serving, carefully add the fried koftas to the simmering curry. Let them cook in the curry for about 2-3 minutes.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
    • Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or roti.
