Spicy Momos Chutney

Spicy momos chutney is a popular dipping sauce served with momos, which are Tibetan-style dumplings. Here’s a simple recipe to make spicy momos chutney:

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 dried red chilies
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • 1 medium-sized tomato, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Remove the stems from the dried red chilies and roughly chop them. Peel and roughly chop the garlic cloves. Peel and chop the ginger.
  2. Blend: In a blender or food processor, add the dried red chilies, garlic cloves, chopped ginger, and chopped tomato. Blend until you get a smooth paste. You may need to add a little water to help with the blending process.
  3. Cook the Chutney: Heat oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the blended paste to the pan. Stir fry the paste for 2-3 minutes until the raw smell disappears and the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. Season: Add soy sauce, vinegar, and salt to the pan. Mix well to combine all the ingredients. Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
  5. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the chutney simmer for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. This helps to meld the flavors together and develop the desired consistency.
  6. Cool and Serve: Once the chutney reaches your desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool down to room temperature. Transfer it to a serving bowl.
  7. Serve: Spicy momos chutney is now ready to be served with your favorite momos. Enjoy dipping your momos in this flavorful and spicy chutney!

Feel free to adjust the spiciness of the chutney by adding more or fewer dried red chilies according to your preference. Additionally, you can add a pinch of sugar if you prefer a slightly sweet-sour taste to balance the flavors.
