Ajwain Paratha

Ajwain paratha is a delicious Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour (atta) and flavored with ajwain (carom seeds) and other spices. Here’s a simple recipe to make ajwain paratha:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
  • 1 tablespoon ajwain (carom seeds)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for kneading
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, ajwain, and salt.
    • Slowly add water and knead the mixture into a smooth, soft dough.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Divide the dough:
    • After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
  3. Roll out the parathas:
    • Take one dough ball and flatten it slightly.
    • Dust it with flour and roll it out into a circle of about 6-7 inches in diameter using a rolling pin.
  4. Cooking:
    • Heat a tawa (griddle) or a non-stick pan over medium heat.
    • Place the rolled-out paratha onto the heated tawa.
    • Cook for about a minute or until you see bubbles forming on the surface.
  5. Flip and cook:
    • Flip the paratha and cook the other side for about a minute.
    • Apply ghee or oil on the cooked side.
  6. Cook until golden brown:
    • Flip again and apply ghee or oil on the other side.
    • Press the edges with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  7. Repeat with remaining dough:
    • Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls, rolling them out into parathas and cooking them on the tawa until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
  8. Serve hot:
    • Serve ajwain paratha hot with yogurt, pickle, or any curry of your choice.
