Ajwain paratha is a delicious Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour (atta) and flavored with ajwain (carom seeds) and other spices. Here’s a simple recipe to make ajwain paratha:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
- 1 tablespoon ajwain (carom seeds)
- Salt to taste
- Water for kneading
- Ghee or oil for cooking
Instructions:
- Prepare the dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, ajwain, and salt.
- Slowly add water and knead the mixture into a smooth, soft dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
- Divide the dough:
- After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out the parathas:
- Take one dough ball and flatten it slightly.
- Dust it with flour and roll it out into a circle of about 6-7 inches in diameter using a rolling pin.
- Cooking:
- Heat a tawa (griddle) or a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Place the rolled-out paratha onto the heated tawa.
- Cook for about a minute or until you see bubbles forming on the surface.
- Flip and cook:
- Flip the paratha and cook the other side for about a minute.
- Apply ghee or oil on the cooked side.
- Cook until golden brown:
- Flip again and apply ghee or oil on the other side.
- Press the edges with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
- Repeat with remaining dough:
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls, rolling them out into parathas and cooking them on the tawa until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
- Serve hot:
- Serve ajwain paratha hot with yogurt, pickle, or any curry of your choice.
