Here’s a detailed recipe to make this delightful chutney:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh coriander leaves (cilantro), washed and roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, washed
  • 1-2 green chilies (adjust according to spice preference)
  • 1 small piece of ginger (about 1/2 inch), peeled and chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon roasted chana dal (split roasted gram) or roasted peanuts
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons water (adjust for desired consistency)

For Tempering (Optional):

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 1-2 dried red chilies (broken into pieces)
  • Curry leaves (a few)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Chutney Base:

  1. In a blender or mixer grinder, combine coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chilies, ginger, garlic (if using), roasted chana dal or peanuts, lemon juice, and salt.
  2. Blend the ingredients into a smooth paste. Add water gradually to adjust the consistency. The chutney should have a smooth texture but not too runny.
  3. Adjust the salt and lemon juice according to taste. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.

2. Optional Tempering:

  1. Heat oil in a small pan for tempering.
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Allow the seeds to splutter and the spices to release their aroma.
  3. Pour the tempering over the prepared coriander mint chutney. Mix well.

3. Serving:

  1. This Dhaniya Pudina Chutney is ready to be served as an accompaniment with snacks, appetizers, or main dishes.
  2. Enjoy the refreshing and zesty flavor of this versatile chutney!

Tips:

  • Adjust the number of green chilies to suit your spice level preference.
  • You can skip garlic if preferred or adjust its quantity based on taste.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the chutney through a fine sieve after blending.

This flavorful Coriander Mint Chutney adds a vibrant touch to your meals and snacks, enhancing their taste with its fresh and aromatic flavors.
