Tandoori Fish Tikka is a popular Indian appetizer or starter made by marinating fish pieces in a blend of yogurt and spices, then grilling or baking them until they’re tender and charred on the edges. Here’s a recipe to make Tandoori Fish Tikka:
Ingredients:
- 500 grams boneless fish fillets (such as salmon, tilapia, or cod), cut into bite-sized cubes
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon tandoori masala powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
- Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes if using wooden skewers
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, tandoori masala powder, red chili powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt, and vegetable oil or melted butter. Mix well to form a smooth marinade.
- Add the fish cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Thread the marinated fish cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
- If grilling, lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking. Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and has charred edges. If baking, place the skewers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time, or until the fish is cooked through and lightly browned.
- Once cooked, remove the Tandoori Fish Tikka from the grill or oven and transfer them to a serving platter.
- Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
Enjoy the succulent and flavorful Tandoori Fish Tikka as a delicious appetizer or starter!
