Butter garlic paneer is a flavorful Indian dish featuring soft paneer (cottage cheese) cubes tossed in a rich and creamy sauce infused with the aromatic essence of butter and garlic. It’s a delightful blend of spices and textures, making it a popular choice for both vegetarians and paneer lovers alike.

Here’s a simple recipe to make butter garlic paneer:

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams paneer, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to your taste)
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium heat. Once the butter melts, add the paneer cubes and fry them until they turn golden brown from all sides. Once done, remove them from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the remaining butter. Once it melts, add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté for a minute until it turns golden brown and aromatic.
  4. Add the chopped onions and green chili (if using) to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  6. Now add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the spices are well combined and the raw smell goes away.
  7. Add the fried paneer cubes to the pan and gently mix them with the masala.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala on top and give it a final mix.
  9. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the paneer to absorb the flavors of the masala.
  10. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
