Tandoori Mushroom

Tandoori Mushroom is a delicious vegetarian alternative to the classic Tandoori Chicken. It’s a flavorful dish where marinated mushrooms are cooked in a tandoor or oven, resulting in smoky and tangy flavors.

Here’s a simple recipe to make Tandoori Mushroom:

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams button mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Kashmiri red chili powder (for color, adjust according to spice preference)
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Skewers (if grilling)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
    • Clean the mushrooms thoroughly and remove the stems. You can either leave them whole or halve larger mushrooms for uniform cooking.
  2. Marinate the Mushrooms:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, Kashmiri red chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, garam masala, turmeric powder, vegetable oil, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth marinade.
    • Add the mushrooms to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  3. Grill or Roast the Mushrooms:
    • If using a grill, thread the marinated mushrooms onto skewers.
    • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using an oven, preheat it to the highest temperature setting.
    • Place the mushrooms on the grill or on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
    • Grill or bake the mushrooms for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are tender and slightly charred. If using an oven, bake at 400°F (200°C) for approximately 15-20 minutes or until done.
  4. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once cooked, remove the mushrooms from the grill or oven.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
    • Serve hot with a side of mint chutney or any desired dipping sauce.

Tandoori Mushroom makes for an excellent appetizer or side dish, offering a delightful combination of smoky, tangy, and spicy flavors. Enjoy these flavorful mushrooms as a part of your meal!
